BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC SCHOOL

A NATIONAL SCHOOL OF CHARACTER

ATTENDANCE LINE: (801) 572-0251, please be sure to call the attendance line by 8:00am.

Day 20 of 40 arrived today! This has always been a little confusing because of the fact that we don’t count the Sundays as part of the 40 days of Lent. However, the mid point is a good time to reflect on our Lenten practice. Perhaps you have given up your favorite treat, or like me, you chose to do an “add-on” as I mentioned in an earlier Buzz. If you didn’t do anything yet, you probably have lots of company but you can still start today! Just like working out, most people don’t regret it once they start.

20 days. You can do it.

DID YOU KNOW-

  • Our students entered the Sandy Arts Guild Elementary Art Show and Wyatt Moreland, Sammy Murray & Sofia Ferris where selected to receive awards!
  • Mariana Pickers has joined our staff as our new advancement coordinator. Her energy and passion for our community is infectious!
  • We are here to answer questions! Any time you hear something that you want more information about or concerns you, please call the office or me at 801-572-5311.
  • We have a Refer-A-Family Program. If you refer a family and they register their child you are eligible for a cash reward! Tell your friends about our great school.
  • Only 30 days till Springfest!

The rumors of our Kindergarten being full are not true. We are excited to say that we will be having two kindergarten classes next year. We also have room in 3rd grade for a few students next year. Amazing things are happening, invite your friends and neighbors to check out Blessed Sacrament Catholic School.

The new playground equipment was installed over the break and the kids LOVE it! It is much safer and appropriate for the younger kids. Our new toddler program will certainly enjoy many sunny days of play. And the Little Blessings Summer Camp picnics will be even more fun.

Children’s safety is of paramount importance. Let’s remember to stay buckled while the car is moving, continue to watch your speed through the drive pattern and make sure you look before pulling away from the curb.

Peace and blessings,

Bryan Penn,
M.S.Ed.L
Principal

LOVE AND LOGIC

Picky Eaters

One of the most common problems involves kids who eat like birds. I’m not talking about ravenous birds of prey or voracious vultures. I’m talking about little “chickadees,” pecking at “seeds” on their plates and scattering most of them to the floor.
Remember that you’re running a home… not a restaurant.
Don’t say, “Do you think this is Burger King? In this house you don’t get it your way.” Saying this is definitely not loving and logical.
I’m simply suggesting that you provide the same meal for everyone, don’t try too hard to make everyone happy all of the time, and reply to complaining with an empathetic, “I know. This is what’s for dinner.”
Remember that it’s your job to provide food, but it’s not your job to make them eat it.
Have you ever tried to force a child to eat? This is definitely a no-win proposition.
Love and Logic parents inform the kids, “Guys… lunch is served until 12:30. Just get what you need to keep you going.”
Remember that the only essential nutrient at a family meal is love.
When the kids complain, “We don’t like this. We’re not eating it,” reply sweetly, “That’s okay. You don’t have to. The only real reason for meal times is for us to love on each other. The food is extra stuff… optional… you don’t really need it.”
Remember that tummies are the best teachers.
Hope and pray they don’t eat. The road to wisdom is paved with mistakes.
Have a spot in the refrigerator for “Emergency Food.”
Every family Frigidaire, GE, LG, Amana, etcetera, should have an emergency food shelf, containing fruits, vegetables… and perhaps Spam. When the kids complain, “I’m starving,” answer with empathy, “Oh… that’s really sad. Fortunately, there’s plenty of free emergency food in the fridge.”
If they sneak non-emergency food, they can repay you for the cost.
My hope is that you enjoy meals and spend time focusing on love… not on fighting with your kids over what goes into their stomachs.
