BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC SCHOOL

A NATIONAL SCHOOL OF CHARACTER

ATTENDANCE LINE: (801) 572-0251, please be sure to call the attendance line by 8:00am.

Father Sam has been guiding the school through the Stations of the Cross this Lent. The reflection on the Third Station—Jesus Falls the First Time asked the children to:

“Remember the last time you received a bad mark on a test? Even though you tried hard you still got a poor mark. When you were disappointed you may have thought about giving up. Jesus didn’t give up. Even though it hurt when He fell to the ground. He got up and went on.”

Sometimes we stumble, but, we must always continue to work hard! I pray that we always try and do our best.

COMMUNITY OF CARING CLUB
Last week, members formed a “bucket brigade” to help organize all the household supplies donated by our wonderful, caring Blessed Sacrament Community for the CCS Refugee Resettlement Program. We had 15 buckets full of supplies! Almsgiving is part of Lent, and this was a great way to “give” and help welcome refugees to our community. Thank you, Mrs. West for planning the project and delivering the supplies to CCS! Our next meeting will be Thursday, April 20. We meet from 3:00-4:00 pm in the 3rd grade classroom – pick-up at 4:00 by the front doors or your child may go to Little Blessings.
Don’t forget to cut out and bring your canceled stamps!!!!!

BOX TOPS
Thank you to all of the families who clipped and returned your Box Tops! The 5th Grade won the classroom contest with a total of 508 Box Tops! They will be getting a Pizza Party, so stay tuned!
A close second in the classroom contest was 8th Grade. Way to go!!

PAYPAMS LUNCH ACCOUNTS
Granite School District has been our partner in the hot lunch program for the past few years. They provide a valuable service to all of our families. They have recently provided us with a list of families who owe money on their Paypam accounts. If you owe money, you should have received a notice of the balance due. We are asking each family to please assist us with getting your Paypam accounts current. We currently owe $2,923 for hot lunches. If the Paypam accounts are not brought current, Blessed Sacrament School is obligated to pay the balance remaining. We thank everyone in advance for bringing and keeping all Paypam accounts current.

BOOK FAIR
The 2017 Book fair will be April 24 – 28. We will be set up before, during, and after the school play on April 27, 2017.

LOVE AND LOGIC
At the Love and Logic Institute, we’ve recently had a rash of S.O.S. calls regarding smelly kids. Most of these involved little ones refusing to take baths, but there have been a few pertaining to older ones.

Sharing control in the form of plenty of small choices can go a long way toward solving the problem. Parents who demand, “You smell. You need to take a bath!” typically achieve less fragrant results than those who ask questions such as:

  • “Will you be getting cleaned up now or in a few minutes?”
  • “Will you be taking a bath with your boat or your Ninja Turtles?”
  • “Are you going to take a bath or a shower?”

Setting limits with Enforceable Statements is another piece of the puzzle:

  • “Feel free to join us for dinner when you smell pleasant to be around.”
  • “I read to kids and play games when I don’t have to smell dirty feet.”
  • “I tend to find it easier to do things with people who use soap and deodorant.”

Natural consequences are often the most effective teachers. Some kids just seem to struggle with grubbiness until they reach the cusp of puberty and realize that their peers are not impressed by their hygiene or lack thereof.

Some never become like Mr. or Mrs. Clean on the outside. Fortunately, the quality of one’s heart is far more important than the quality of one’s hygiene. We’ve met wonderfully clean and effective parents who did everything they could to raise well-bathed kids. Because of factors beyond their control, their kids turned out very sweet on the inside… but a bit unkempt on the outside. One mother put it well: “Who cares? Far worse things could have happened!”
