ATTENDANCE LINE: (801) 572-0251, please be sure to call the attendance line by 8:00am.

Today is the feast of St. Matthew. St Matthew was not someone you would expect to be called by Jesus to follow Him. No one was more shunned by the Jews than a publican. A publican was a Jew working for the Roman enemy, someone often guilty of extortion through taxation, guilty of exhorting his own people and making a large personal profit. Publicans were not allowed to trade, eat, or even pray with others Jews. St. Matthew was a publican.

Jesus looked at Matthew and said two words: “Follow me.” This was all that was needed to make Matthew rise, leaving his pieces of silver to follow Christ. St. Matthew’s original name, “Levi,” in Hebrew signifies “Adhesion” while his new name in Christ, Matthew, means “Gift of God.” Jesus explained that he had come “not to call the just, but sinners.”

  • Can you believe that we have already made $12,039 in our Fall Fundraiser? We are more than halfway to our goal and have already earned 20 extra minutes of recess! The movie and popcorn are ready for our next goal of $15,000. I am getting a little nervous about the $20,000+ I guess I better look for my tent and warm sleeping bag.
  • We need volunteers for lunch! 11-12:45. Come for all of it or come for part. We would love to have a few more parents. Grandparents, aunts, uncles come and help with the children at lunch. Both inside and outside help needed.
  • We have two paid positions available in the Lunchroom. If you, or someone you know, family, friends, is available daily between the hours of 11:45am and 12:45pm, please call us at 801-572-5311. This is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of your student’s day.
  • Safety is a priority at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School. Please remember to follow the drive pattern and use the crosswalks when entering school.
  • What an amazing day we experienced! Grandparents and grand-friends are awesome! We had over 150 visitors celebrating Mass, touring the school, and enjoying a very nice lunch. Thank you Mrs. Pickers and your entire crew for orchestrating this annual event.
    Peace and blessings,

Bryan Penn, M.S.Ed.L
